Services from abroad

Divorce in Argentina while living abroad

If you live outside Argentina and need to deal with a divorce there, the first step is to review jurisdiction and the documents required.

Contact the firm on WhatsApp

An initial consultation can take place remotely. The firm is based in La Plata and reviews territorial jurisdiction before accepting a case. Living abroad does not, by itself, establish the jurisdiction of an Argentine court.

Documents for the initial review

How we work

  1. We review the connection with Argentina, the relevant jurisdiction and any existing proceedings.
  2. We define the scope of the proposed work, the necessary documents and a fee proposal.
  3. If a power of attorney or foreign documents are needed, we review the applicable formalities before you arrange them.
  4. We agree on the follow-up arrangements and coordinate the steps covered by the engagement.

Common questions

Does my spouse have to agree to the divorce?

In Argentina, either spouse may apply for divorce. The application must include a proposal addressing its effects. Disagreement about that proposal requires separate consideration.

Can you guarantee that I will not need to travel?

This depends on the court, representation and required steps. We cannot promise a fully remote procedure before reviewing the case.

What if I am already divorced in another country?

Tell us at the outset. Reviewing the effects or registration of a foreign judgment is different from starting a new divorce.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

The fee proposal identifies the professional work and anticipated expenses. Timing depends on jurisdiction, service of documents and the state of the case.

For the first contact, tell us the topic, whether proceedings have begun and the country you are contacting us from. We then arrange the document review. Do not put sensitive information or documents into the search box.
